Club Nautico San Isidro

 Day two in Buenos Aires. Twelve years ago Edward took Penny and I to his yacht club. It is a vast club with many boats moored, a golf course, several restaurants, swimming pools etc. We enjoyed walking round with Hugh (who is joining me on the cruise) and had a delicious piece of tender filet beef at one of the restaurants followed by Dolce de Leche Ice Cream.

First day in Buenos Aires

  After about 24 hrs of flying including some delays I was met by my friend Edward at the EZE airport.  He and I were at Bryanston school in Dorset in England together and last shared a “prefects” study together in 1957 (66 years ago). We lost touch but he made contact 40 years later and 25 years ago he came to British Columbia and crewed on Polyandra in the Queen Charlotte Islands. We have kept in touch since and 12 years ago Penny and I had a memorable visit to Argentina including a few days in Punta del Este with Edward and his wife Karin.  On the first day we were invited to a BBQ at their son’s house. We were joined by Hugh, whom is going to accompany me on the voyage around the Horn. When you take a selfie it is a mirror image - never realised that before. A traditional Argentine BBQ Edward’s son Guy designed and built this house. He is an architect who works in a private hospital in Buenos Aires.

A summary of the last month

  Having been away a month I thought it worth summarising the hilights and some lowlights. Hilights Visiting school friend of more than 60 years ago Edward and his wife Karin in Buenos Aries. An Argentine BBQ with Edward’s son Guy and family. A visit to Club Nautical San Isidro Yacht Club and an excellent filet steak at one of the restaurants there. Visiting the Theatre Colon in Buenos Aires. A sea lion colony and sheep shearing in Porto Madryn, Argentina. Great views of icebergs, wildlife (Penguins, Albaross, whales etc) in Antarctica. Experiencing a force 9 (50 Knots) strong gale on a cruise ship in the Drake passage. Grateful to Hugh, friend of fifty years, for his companionship on this trip.We never cease to have something to discuss/argue about! Excellent scientific talks on Antarctica on Oceania Marina. Helpful talks on the use of the IPhone 14 pro on ship. Meeting many travellers from all over the globe and having lively discussions over dinner on a cruise ship. Intermediate...
